Philosophy Masterclass

Philosophy On Friday 11th July, pupils ranging form Year 7 to 10 attended an introduction to the riveting subject of Philosophy. Throughout the day, we explored many different themes and concepts from a philosophical viewpoint, from if it was possible to achieve the pursuit of happiness, to whether there is an omnipotent demon controlling our every move and future. The practical analysis of philosophy was split up into several phases, which we systematically went through for each area we covered, beginning with a warm-up, such as an activity or game, to help us focus and concentrate, followed by a stimulus relating to the subject matter. In small groups, we’d then come up with some questions regarding the stimulus.  After selecting a few specific questions to discuss, we would present ideas and theories about them.  Finally, we would draw conclusions and reflect on what we had discussed during the session. Overall, the day was highly enjoyable and provided an interesting insight and taste of philosophy.
