Headlines - Mills Match 2 - Even better this time

It was quite a challenge to organise the second staff vs student football match to commemorate Ollie Mills and to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The school, led admirably by our Senior Prefect Team and the Sixth Form, rose magnificently to the challenge. At the time of writing it is likely we will comfortably exceed the amount of money raised last time.  We should approach £3000 by the time it is all counted.  Last Friday the weather held up and we took the whole school down the road to the St Albans Football Club in Clarence Park.  Everyone behaved impeccably and students improvised chants and banners. All our personalities, Lee Dixon, Danny Shittu and the Mayoress all turned up and spent a great amount of time supporting the event. We thank them for their contribution.  Our old boy, Geoff Shreeves organised a Barclays Man of the Match Champagne bottle. Many younger old boys, parents and friends of the school turned up for what is becoming an established biannual part of our calendar.  And the match itself?  I thought the staff played a lot better this time although the scoreline did not reflect it.  The student team were definitely fitter and probably of a  higher calibre. Christian Tendi deservedly won the man of the match award for scoring most of the students' five goals. The amusing commentary was also a new feature  as well as the penalty shoot out contest at half time.  I have written to the Sixth Form expressing my thanks for their efforts but I would also like to thank all the staff who helped out, particularly the playing members who put their bodies on the line!

Finally...

  •    Please could all parents of Y11, Sixth Form and Y9 students remind their children about the importance of preparing for exams by revising during the Easter Break.  We hope you found the revision evenings useful and the presentations are available on our website.
  • Can I wish all parents and students a very restful break.

Jeff Rich Drum Workshop

On Wednesday 12 March, Jeff Rich, ex– Status Quo drummer, came into school and did a workshop with Year 8.  He went through the history of the drum which was interesting, going from African drums to modern military kit.  Some students were picked to try out the drums, which was quite funny at times.

The highlight was when two groups were invited up to play percussion whilst Jeff played on his drums.  The more experienced drummers in the group were invited to play on Jeff's kit.  Everyone, including the teachers, had a very enjoyable day.
